Cant you control the slip angle or ARB? By that I mean how the arrive at the point fully locked. On race car I have just turned down the ramps so the would smoothly arrive at fully locked as opposed to bang im locked, I have no knowledge of ARB lockers but plenty with helical and platted diffs...

Mr Noisy from what your saying its for sure the torque forces on the shafts, if there is more brusing on the 10 splines the must be more slip before the torque passes through, and the 24 bangs the torque straight down the shaft twisting it immediately hence snapping the shaft the bigger tyres...

I know what you are saying but, the 24 splines technically speaking should be able to spread more of the load across more metal surface, in theory making them stronger, then its down to what they are mae with how the are treated etc. Maybe you were just in an aggressive time of your live...

I'm next in line for my defender 90, I want to go down the 33" route, but like him it takes me a while to make decisions, I love the look of creepy crawlers but not very good in mud I imagine!! Insa special track look good and seem to have good reviews,I think the wide look is awesome noisy's...

If you open the diff housing, you will see if you looked directly in, at 12 o clock, 3, 6, and 9 a circle at each point they all look the exact same (like just the end of a metal pin) the picture above looks like a proper lsd. If its 2 pin you will just see 2 pins i think at 3, and 9.

you will be grand, in fact you will have more mechanical face touching on the splines so they are stronger under tugh conditions, and if your were lucky you might even have a 4 pin diff if you back axle is from a 110!

Paul, you are right I got confused, all disco has always been 1.2, defender except specials and some military were always 1.4 and special and military being 1.6, then in 07 defender came in line with disco so it changed to a 1.2 t box.

I was speaking to one of the guys in transmissions the other day because I was thinking of going bigger tyres etc, he explained to me the only the later discos had 1.2, there may have been a crossover period but not sure, all defenders had 1.4 ie with exception to some early defenders, military...

No its the same 200, 300 tdi and td5 and disco 1 are the same 1.4 FD Ratio, the one you want for the bigger tyres etc is the 1.6fd drive that came in some Special vehicles its rare as rocking horse poo!! lol
