I would suspect the same or less common is faulty HDC switch. Traction control (or HDC) wont kick in when you need it if the warning lamps are on - thats the only consideration I would give to ingonring it! Think it costs about £30 to have fixed. Might just need readjusting - wouldnt be the first.

Happens in mine 2, smells more like coolant to me...or sometimes even petrol....I jist do me daily checks of coolant level, oil un watch the temp gauge more than the road.

Halfords sell em - £13.99 fer the ISO lead - thats if yer want it fast, probably cheaper online.
