    eka-code (engine disabled)

I was under the impression that it wasn't possible to read the EKA on a locked BECM? At least that's what it says on the Nanocom's manual...

    Air box lid distortion

Same thing on my DSE and I believe the boxes are the same? If it's like mine you're seeing the top of the filter, so it's no big deal.

    Alternator Failure???

I had exactly the same symptoms on my 98 DSE. Everything started to shut down gradually (tach/speedometer, hevac, radio, all internal lights) but I managed to drive home with just the front fog lights on (the dipped beams had gone by then). No alternator light or warning ever came up. Dropped...

Is my alternator on it's way out ?

Thanks for both of your replies. I'm going to try changing the battery with one from another car, not sure if the terminal positions are compatible though. I measure the voltage at the cig lighter because I was alone and couldn't check it at alternator or battery while revving the car to...

Is my alternator on it's way out ?

2.5 DSE here. My battery has been getting weaker, so I decided to check my alternator output. Following a troubleshooting guide I found online, there are the readings I got: - Voltage at battery after main beams on for 2 minutes: 12.37V (guide says that less than 12.40V the battery is...

    Faultmate Query

Bbsguy once explained that it is a setting that's built into the BECM but it's not connected anywhere. I remember that there was some speculation about it being used to detect rain.

Fuelling - injected quantity and start of injection advance

Well, the injectors were cleaned and checked at a Bosch shop while I was changing the cylinder head, so I'm guessing they're ok. Having the pump refurbished is an expensive job so I'll probably just replug the hot start fix box and call it a day. :)

Fuelling - injected quantity and start of injection advance

Great info as usual Wammers. So, if the timing modulation is looking good, can I assume that the static timing is ok ? And, since I have the usual hot start problem, can I then assume that it's down to FIP wear?

Fuelling - injected quantity and start of injection advance

So, I finally managed to get my DSE checked with a Nanocom evolution. The timing modulation, after the engine's at a proper temperature, is around 49% but it jumps up and down a little bit at idle (i'd say between 47% and 52%). Nanocom's guide says this: What do they mean with "erratic...

Diesel P38 radiator baffle or not

Sometime ago I had a Nissens radiator fitted and I did the marble test, but I didn't use a big marble, in fact I used a small M6 nut that came through the other side. This convinced me that the radiator was no good and I replaced it. Reading this thread prompted me to make a video inspection...

is this normal for diff bung, and rumble cured.

Using this thread just to plug an old outstanding question: Are all diff plugs magnetic ? A few months ago I replaced the diff oil in my 2.5 DSE and both diff plugs were absolutely clean, no metal shards, which led me to believe that possibly mine weren't magnetic (but i forgot to check while...

Data link connector - brown and pink/red wires

You Sirs, are a wealth of information :) According to the bulletin (that SaintV8 had uploaded to another thread on this same subject, which google failed to find for me previously) mine shouldn't have been affected by that battery drain, as it's a later model. Probably someone had battery drain...

Data link connector - brown and pink/red wires

Hi all. By accident, I discovered that someone had connected together the Brown and Pink/Red wires of the Data Link Connector, using a resistor. After reading through the ETM, it seems that the Brown wire is a +12V fused feed, straight from the fuse box and that the Pink/Red wire is the K...

Fuelling - injected quantity and start of injection advance

Unfortunately Hawkeye doesn't provide timing modulation info, that's why I posted the images above, in hope that there was some conclusion that could be reached. Does the Nanocom provide this information ? I have a friend with one of those, could try hooking it up and see what it shows...

Fuelling - injected quantity and start of injection advance

Today, after a little run with the Hawkeye connected, I got curious about the fueling information. My DSE always seemed a little bit thirsty, compared to some reports around here, doing at best 22mpg when driven sensibly. I have no clue on how to interpret these. Can someone help ? When...

First diesel P38 with MAF ?

Just curious about it, because I've always believed that alloy manifold meant no EGR and plastic manifold implied EGR. My vehicle's VIN is in the middle of that range but I still have the alloy manifold and no EGR, which leads me to believe that maybe Microcat is incorrect. Just for further...

First diesel P38 with MAF ?

Hi. Does anyone know what's the VIN number of the first diesel P38 to be fitted with the MAF sensor ? I was under the impression that the MAF was introduced at the same time as the black plastic intake manifold but looking at Microcat I see different numbers for the start of the MAF sensor...

    new fault

I may be wrong about this, but if his is the EGR version, where did he plug the pipe that usually goes to a Tee-piece that is connected to the MAP pipe ? IIRC the EGR ones don't have a MAP, right ?
