Hi Chaps. I'm sure the temp sensor is ok as I had issues with it earlier (see "And the black smoke?") And all it is is a thermistor which rarely go wrong, more likely to be connectors as was my problem. Hoses are all ok, so thinking I might have to bite the bullet and buy a new sensor...

Well pump seems to be running ok and fillter is less than a year from new. I'll have a closer look at them though. Cheers.

What colour is the bad smoke? I had a similar problem with Black smoke, and lots of it. It turned out to be the air temperature sensor on the short hose right at the front of the engine on the air intake. Take off the plug, spray with switch and contact cleaner, then VERY CAREFULLY close the gap...

Could be the viscous coupling bearing mountings. Does it do it when turning tight corners? I had this banging, and it felt like it was, as you state right under the drivers seat. The bearings are held in thick rubber mounts, but do perish and go soft, allowing the action of the prop shaft 'wind...

Just chuck the old one away and put new one in just as it comes out of the box. For the few quid it costs, it's not worth the trouble of trying to clean it and risking bad aspiration for your engine. :fish:

Could be weepy injectors, they cause blue smoke if they're not atomising properly.

I think pretty much all has been said as regards gstuarts questions, except maybe the contact cleaner one. The one I used is Darathene spray, switch and contact cleaner, but it's one I've had kicking around for 20 years or more, might not even be in business anymore. I'm sure though you will...

I wouldn't buy another FL1 TD4. Not that it has actually let me down, but there always seems to be another rattle, knock buzz or squeak which is a pig to find. I have had mine about 3 years now, but always feel that at some point it's going to crap out big time. I'd risk an FL2 TD4 though, maybe...
