It has reached operating temperature, hence the temporary belt. I just don't have the proper pulley at the mo, and wanted to test stuff out in the mean time. And it makes a knock both cold at hot
I've tried just about every timing setting known to man and the knock is still present. At a certain speed there is also a vibration which I believe may be normal because my disco 300tdi also does this. I tried cracking the injectors off and one cylinder definitely makes less of a difference...
I'm beginning to believe the source of the knock is one of the injectors dripping or something. I tried using some injector cleaner, exhaust gases look cleaner, but the knock is still present. Think I should send them to a specialist ?
Nope! the smoke was coming from the exposed crankcase breather! As i said, it's not finished yet :D
It is now piped back to the intake, it's not venting to atmosphere anymore
Can't be sure actually. If it helps, it can't idle slowly, if the rpm's drop to (what sounds like) under 1k, it drops to very very low rpm in which it feels like it's fighting for it's life, shaking the vehicle to bits.
I played with the timing a bit again, retarded it until there was white smoke, then advanced it little by little until it wasn't emitting white smoke, seems to run well now, but still has a knock to it.
Valve clearances i believe are spot on, they were set up a few days ago, also this engine actually starts fabulously, even without glows on cold start, it starts almost instantly.
The timing belt has been done, but i know the cam and crank are properly timed.... i tried re-timing the fuel injection pump today and it helped a bit...
The top end has been rebuilt in the passed week because of a blown head gasket.
Yep, seized solid. Then when I tried to start it, it wouldn't catch. I then turned up the max fuel slightly and it ran perfectly with the exception of the timing being just slightly too advanced, also now fixed.
