    What's this Td5 worth?

I like your "may" LOL! The problem here is that it's such a tiny demographic; the whole population here is no bigger than that of Tunbridge Wells. I'd be waiting for ever. Anyway, judging from the remarks here I don't think £9.5k would be an unreasonable price for a quick sale so I'll kick off...

    It’s Broken!

Still sounds like a duff battery to me.

    What's this Td5 worth?

Hi all, After 5 years of faithful service, the time has arrived for me to reluctantly sell my Defender since I'm finding the clutch a bit too heavy for my poor old left hand knee which went under the knife earlier this year and hasn't been the same since. I'm totally out of touch with values...

    Blowing Fuses

Er, yes, maybe. In fact there are additional spotlights (2 sets in fact - see my avatar). I've never used 'em, though, so... I'll look into it. In fact I have an old pal of mine from Sussex coming over this weekend and he's run his own Landrover business for nearly 50 years. If he doesn't know...

    Blowing Fuses

Well I can now confirm that the source of the issue was this mysterious white wire. It seems to have been there since manufacture but I can't be certain. Once I separated the grey/blue mainbeam wire from the white wire the problem went away. The white wire by itself reads close to short-circuit...

    Blowing Fuses

I've done a few more checks. After pulling apart the plug & socket at the bulkhead to isolate the headlamp bulb socket from the relays, fuses and switchgear, the main headlamp terminal at the headlamp end is still shorted to earth. Oddly enough, the mainbeam n/s (the problem one) has an...

    Blowing Fuses

Low resistance; indestinguishable from short circuit, so it looks like the chaffed wire hypothesis may well be the culpret. Rotten weather here today so it'll have to wait a little bit longer before I can see to it...

    Blowing Fuses

It's not the bulb. Checking the resistance between the contacts at the empty bulb socket with the headlights all turned off shows a very very low reading; as low as my meter will go. I'd have expected it to read infinite resistance if it were in good order.

    Blowing Fuses

Yes, the fuse responsible for n/s mainbeam blows just as you say.

    Blowing Fuses

Well, that could certainly account for it! Thanks.

    Blowing Fuses

Hi all, Just tidying-up a few loose ends on my 2003 Defender TD5 before I put it up for sale. I'm finding that the n/s headlight is blowing 10A fuses whenever it's put on main beam. The fuses blow right away so it looks like a near or total short-circuit. Any ideas as to what could be causing...

    Defender Td5

No, I've still got the Landy. I haven't actually got around to advertising it even locally on the island yet! Perhaps it doesn't want to go! On the very day I posted the first message here on the subject, I started to go down with some unknown viral infection which weakened my immune system (so...

    Defender Td5

Well, if I ask for 8,500 that wouldn't be too much, then. I'm not greedy; it's the people on this island who are tight! :) Here's a couple of pix...

    Defender Td5

Have to confess to being somewhat surprised you view 'never off-roaded' as a drawback!! :) And mileage doesn't matter? Hmmm. Anyway, the thing about off-roading is that a lot of owners who go off-road don't realise that it massively reduces the service interval WRT fluid changes and who wants to...

    Defender Td5

Hi all, After four fabulous years, I've decided it's time to part with my faithful Landy. Trouble is, I haven't a clue what it's worth. I've looked on Ebay (as you do) but the spread of values is so vast it's impossible to get any idea of an accurate value for mine. So that's where you come in...

    Insurance company recommendations?

OK, got it sorted out now through a local non-specialist insurance broker. Only cost a few quid more and there's now no annual mileage limit to worry about. So much nicer to just get straight through to a human being without being kept on hold indefinitely. So my advice is, don't overlook your...

    Insurance company recommendations?

I'm sorry Jamie but that's not really good enough, is it? What a funny way to run a business! What are people who don't even know of this forum supposed to do? Looking through previous reams of postings I see a clear pattern emerging which shows that other people have had the same problems I've...

    Insurance company recommendations?

Hi all, I've been with Adrian Flux for about 4 years and they've basically just helped themselves to the renewal fee via direct debit every year. But this time I had a query concerning the renewal so I rang them (always engaged) and emailed them (no reply) to try to get some clarification on...

    Castrol GTX

I tried to buy my usual Motoquip engine oil for my next upcoming oil change, but my local retailer is no longer stocking it. I was offered some German stuff for an astronomical price which I declined. On the way back I stopped at a petrol station to top up on diesel and noticed they had Castrol...
