The very good times and the very bad times (My first few days of owning a landy)

looking at the origional pic, the landrover appears to be parked totally blocking the pavement .... i think thats actually illegal. if it had been parked fully on the road probably the old guy would have noticed it and not hit it. just be careful, dont send the insurance co any of your...

    School time

bucket of water is the first resort when welding... easy to use and no mess to clear up helps to have a waterbutt or old bath full of water reasonably close aswell. you should always hang arround for half an hour after finishing the last weld if it aint smoking by then its unlikely to...

    mint disco

question is , are you buying it to use it in which case its 2k tops , or going to stick it in a museum in which case its how deep does the seller think your pockets are. :).

    mint disco

boot and drivers footwell carpets dont quite look as mint as the shiny paintwork.... if its solid underneath its 2k tops......based on buy a runner for 1k nand spend 1k on welding so you know its good for a year or two

    Landy zone the unfriendly forum

ive found if you ask a half sensible question that wernt asked 10 times last month the percentage of sensible helpful answeres goes up dramatically.... you only got to look at the does dark travel faster than light thread to see that.

look at some welding forums... they will have links to you tube and other tutorials... even look on fleabay for a mig welding dvd..... then when youve got a bit of an idea whats whats going on get some scrap and play..... when you can glue two baked bean cans together youve made a start 125mm...

    Broken down. Any ideas?

fuel at injectors dont mean theres enough fuel getting through for it to run at high revs the origional sypmtoms are classic for a partial blockage, air leak. or less commonly weak lift pump. is there a tiny gauze filter in the inlet to the injection pump?

    Broken down. Any ideas?

classic advise there , start boltin on new bits without checking the basics of blocked or punctured fuel lines funny how a guy with close on 3k posts about not bein able to start his engine thinks hes got good advise to give to someone else.... specially when he dont seem to know the...

    Broken down. Any ideas?

could be a blockage in the fuel line , try blowing air back down from the engine bay fuel filter to the sedimenter and from the sedimenter to the tank... someone listening by the open fuel filler should be able to hear air bubbling up through the fuel. .

    Tyre Pressures

the transfer box is irrelevent to tyre sizes and pressure...as far as i know theres nothing on them to tell you what ratio they are.... bob only mentioned it cos hes a total ****. yer metal wheels are 16 inch diameter but they can have various width and thickness tyres on them ... 205/80/16 is...

mechanicle whinches and auto box's ???

sounds to me like you need the controlled variable speed that the 5 speed box gives you add to that the heat issue from the torque converter... and i think its beginning to look like auto box is a bad idea

mechanicle whinches and auto box's ???

not sure having an auto box changing the winch speed whilst winching would be a good idea... but you can stick the box in 1 rather than d .... youre obviously the one whose got most experience actually using this set up with a manual box... do you normally winch with the manual box in first or...

    Paddock Spares service!

all you can or should do is email paddocks and tell them the tyres were left by the front door...its up to them whether they moan to the carrier

    Nothings ever simple

first off open the bleed on slave cylinder to pump fluid through, that will show if pedal and master cylinder move. does sound like theres a major problem in the cluch aswell.... if clutch plate was stuck to flywheel you should have still had movement at pedal and drive when chained up...

Is their anything wrong with an 18mm socket?

more likely its the same trackrod end they used on a series in 1948 with a whitworth nut that an 18mm just happens to fit :):) i had a hilka socket set back in the seventies ... with a set of af sockets and all the even numbered metric ones that were never used...no 13,17, or 19 work that one...

Dammed kids, do you think Landy is OK for this

really you only need stuff to change a wheel, fan belt and power steering belts, fuses and light bulbs they should be all you ever need at the roadside. a bit of preventative maintenance goes a long way , if the belts are changed as preventative maintenance they should last years, same...
