series 2 gearbox replacement advice please

You can fit almost anything, but if you men can you drop it in just using spanners, no. The prop-shafts will need modifying (different lengths) the transmission tunnel, floor and possibly bulkhead, will need modifying, you will need to fabricate mountings, and possibly a cross member, and having...

    No Servo Vacum 2.2 diesel series3 88

Rubbish. Series motors never had a pump, relied in inlet manifold vacuum. If yours has a pump it isn't an original Series engine.

    Series III front brakes

Have you adjusted the master cylinder to eliminate all play in the pedal? There must be some play or the brakes won't release correctly and will tighten with use until they lock up.

    school me; defender engines

The blocked off flaps was normal for A/C for many years. I suspect, but may be totally wrong, that that will show it's not a TD5 as I think that is when they went to the protruding grill for AC. A photo of the engine would make identifying it far easier.

    Truck Cab Corner Windows

Yes, but later Defenders had thinner glass, so you may need the rubber to match the glass. You do know they are handed?

    4th Gear on series 3

Have you got an Overdrive? It could be the nut on the back of the main shaft. (Has to be undone to fit an overdrive, so be have been reassembled with a knackered lock wash, and so my first question, but can happen with or without O/D) Does the gearlever move back and forwards on it's own as you...

    Freelander 1 vs Freelander 2

Very interesting post Rich, but I feel I must take issue with a couple of minor points. FL2 has more ground clearance than FL1, so I'm not sure why it should be a bigger problem. The fuel tank is vulnerable, but I don't think I have ever damaged one. I suspect speed may be the issue. I don't...

td4 auto or manual you decide

So the auto is a year older but has done 10m less miles and is cheaper to tax. I'd go for an auto every time, especially for towing or off roading. The Freelander is designed for towing, the auto box even has a towing mode, that prevents it hunting between gears on long hills. As others have...

    Freelander 1 vs Freelander 2

As they leave the factory I would say the Freelander 2 is the better off road, in fact in nearly every capacity. Having said that my experience is mainly autos. The manual Fl 2 tends to be a bit fast off road, I have no experience of a manual Fl 1 off road.

HELP Is it my Clutch OR gearbox

If a vehicle starts behaving oddly (noises, vibrations etc) they will seldom cure themselves. Whilst you may get away with normal driving any excessive strain will usually make things worse.

Help please, the only thing we can think off next is a can of petrol and a match

Sounds classic out of adjustment, no amount of bleeding will cure that. Tighten them until they are jammed solid, not just making contact, then back them off just enough to allow them to turn. It will probably take several attempts to get it right, especially if the drums are getting worn.
