    Book Symbol

P38, 4.6 Vogue, 96k. I have the book symbol appearing every time the car is started first thing in the morning. But it goes away for the rest of the day. Here's the sequence: 1) Turn ignition on - no book symbol 2) Start engine - book symbol immediately appears 3) Turn ignition off and back...

    Front Air Suspension Collapses

Make sure the pipes are properly pushed in. Sometimes they are difficult to get fully past the O-rings.

    MOT failed.......

Two things I've learnt about MoTs... Firstly, not all MoT testers are the same. Our P38 came with a fresh MoT with an advisory. Can't remember what it was, but it was mechanical and it's never been fixed. Since then it's been through 3 MoTs at different stations without a single advisory...

    Gearbox and Torque Converter

Sorry about the "V" - slipped in there. So used to writing V8... :o Father-in-law has asked two questions: What are the symptoms that something is starting to go wrong? And how can he check if the work has already been done? Thanks!

    4.6 mpg?

Our P38 4.6, mostly used for short journeys round town, has a long-term average of 13.4mpg and 17mph.

    Gearbox and Torque Converter

My father-in-law has an 05 plate L322 TDV6 with something over 80k on the clock. I guess he may have gearbox problems at some point if he's not one of the fortunate ones? And is the best preventative measure to replace the torque converter? Is this a permanent fix, or something that needs to...

    No wash pumps working

Rear washer doesn't need to work at all for MoT. Guess how I know :) Don't know for sure about the front, but I would guess it needs to work on the correct switch as Saint.V8 said.

    Nissan steer-by-wire cars

It's so they can put the steering wheel where they like, including "in the back seat" according to Masaharu Satou, a Nissan engineer. :D

    Vibrator

Indeed. I do try to back and finish threads. Unfortunately, this problem has been overtaken by other issues with the car (e.g. a coolant leak into the drivers footwell which refuses to go away, despite changing the heat exchanger O rings twice and then the exchanger itself) so is now on the...

    Which General Grabber to get?

Dunno about the HTS and BSW, but the UHP is road-biased whereas the AT is offroad-biased. Here are the reviews for the UHP and AT that I dug up when I was deciding which tyre to go for: Grip - dry 1.6 1.4 1.9 Braking - dry 1.7 1.2 2.0 Grip - wet 2.0 2.0 2.6 Braking -...

What the hell is it with car insurance....?

Me and the wife, 2000 P38 4.6, 3 years NCD, £250.16 fully comp from Direct Line (which is quite a bit cheaper than insuring the VW Transporter with maximum NCD).

    Which General Grabber to get?

I have the new GG AT on my P38 (255/55/18), and I've been impressed with them. A bit noisier than the original fit Scorpions but not excessively so. Grip in the wet and dry is very good. Comfort is also good. Haven't yet tried them in the mud or snow, so I can't comment there... Oh, and...

    Three Cheers for the BeCM

Nothing wrong with the standard setup. But, having followed SWMBO several times, it would be good if the lights came on quicker and brighter. Another alternative would be to get something like the Halfords "Quick Response" bulbs...

    Three Cheers for the BeCM

Had a service yesterday and an MoT booked for today. This morning, started the car up and got a message - RH brake bulb failure. Quick change of bulb and (hopefully) no MoT fail. :) Oh, and a question. I was thinking of changing the high level brake bulbs to LEDs. Anyone done this? I...

    Vibrator

Tested handbrake today - 15mph in neutral - worked fine. Also took the car for a spin this morning round some country lanes, and then checked again for binding brakes (rear pads and brake fliud were changed yesterday). No brake smell, all wheels were cold, so I guess brakes are not binding...

You're right - in fact, there's one on each axle.
