The tensioner on my 300tdi will need replacing soon. I have noticed the Dayco which is stated as OEM and aftermarket makes. Is there any difference between the two?

I was going to order the Dayco but one is under £20, the other (the Dayco) over double that. Is the Dayco a better item or is there little difference?

Your experiences please folks.

I originally had a Dayco fitted but was trying to chase the source of a squeaking noise. I replaced it with another unbranded one which had more play in it and made the noise worse. I sent that back and they sent me a far better oem spec one at no extra cost and the quality was leaps ahead of the unbranded crap. If you can afford Dayco or oem then go for that

Many thanks for your help. I don't mind paying for quality when there is a difference in the product, but think it is a waste if the only difference is the name!

When I was skint, I changed the bearing in one of them.

Took me hours to get the bearing out using very basic tools.

I vowed id just buy the whole thing if I ever needed to again.

But...

If you had the tools, you could just put in whatever bearing you wanted. Even the best bearing will probably be less than a fiver delivered...

That's what I did with one of my pulleys on the td5, got a good bearing pressed in. A also replaced one pulley with a britpart one, and now I'm constantly thinking about it giving up prematurely, and also the britpart pulley is ever so out of line compared with the original! Kicking myself that I didn't just get both bearings replaced!

As i remember, it wasnt getting the bearing in that was the issue, but the circlip that holds it in place.

It was years ago, but, im pretty sure, i just pushed the bearing in with a vice and a drift (probably a socket of some size).

But i had no special tool to get the circlip in or out, so, i think, that was the issue.
