Has anyone ever made a bush type thing for the lower gear lever ball like below in the pic, my gear lever hasn’t got one and this has been the source of ear splitting machine gun rattling , I’m thinking about a bit of pipe heated up and the pushed over or something similar? It has a groove for an O ring but I’m pretty sure they wear away quickly. Hoping to engineeer something more durable

Thanx

Original is some sort of nylon washer. A ring cut from a suitable size alkathene pipe warmed in hot water to soften enough to slip on could do the job and last some time.

Have made a rudimentary bush from a bit of diving stick, it’s hard polyurethane type material and fits very snugly over the ball. Will file it up neatly tomorrow and reassemble! Should do for a while and hopefully stop that bloody awful stick rattle

So my improvised plastic bush was too thick to fit in the cups, so I bought some O rings from Craddock, installed them and greased the cups with thick tractor grease, they were pretty dry, likely never been touched. I also made a new locating bolt for the side of the ball, bit of jb weld on the outside for security, and now I have a magnificent tight gear stick and no lever chatter.!

Happy days

Good, it should last a while.
To be fair, it wasn’t as bad as I thought to do, worst part was getting the floor up, but anyway, even if I have to replace the O ring and grease the cups yearly it’s worth it to get rid of the gear-lever chatter, it was driving me and Mrs Fatrover mad, had to get Fatrover jnr to sit in the middle and stick a hand on the stick to stop the racket !
