I guess so. My letter has already gone out though, recorded delivery, and has been signed for as received. No worries though, I guess when he replies, I can follow it up with another letter to cover this? Or maybe I just go through the small claim process using what you've suggested as a claim...

I do have a written report - a full mechanical report, written by the owner of the 4X4 engineer, who also happens to be chairman of the Scottish Land Rover Owners Club. The only thing that he cannot say with conviction is that the Trader definitely caused the fault, but he certainly passed it on...

@IGP50 - thanks. This was my reply to the CAG post. I understand that the car is old. I expected there to be faults and I found several (welded chassis, corroded wheels, very worn clutch). But £4,000 shouldn't just buy me a bag of bolts. That price is actually on the high side for a vehicle of...

I have sought some advice from a solicitor friend, and the letter has been sent, after some modifications he made to it. On a related matter, here is a post I received from the Consumer Action group that relates to the sticky topic - crock of ****. You may find it interesting. -----------I...

He's already said he will defend my claim verbally. Trouble is, if I go through the Small Claims Court, I can only max £3,000 as a refund. So I'll lose about a grand, plus what it has cost me for the written report. The engineer has had the engine in bits.

Hi, I wonder if someone could peruse the letter below and let me know if it is suitable? This is in response to feedback I got from the original post here. LETTER BEGINS 29/07/2011 Attn: XXXX XXXX Used Car Specialist XXXXXXXXX, Hamilton, XXX XXX Dear XXXX, I bought a Land Rover Discovery 2...

Thanks again folks. I have scanned the Terms on the invoice and you can view them here ---> Ts&Cs printed on my Car Sales Invoice. on Twitpic Isn't it also illegal to sell an unroadworthy car under the The Road Traffic Act 1988? His details are now with Consumer Direct and they are keen to...

@Bromsgrove It's a fair observation. He currently has 3 Landys for sale on Autotrader. Presumably, I'll be able to pursue him based on the fact that it is not his new trading name, but his previous that my contract is with... *shrug*

@Martin1512, thanks to you and the rest. I will be pursuing this cowboy, and what I've read confirms what you have written @Xat - He not only let me drive it away with no "unroadworthy" warning, he drove it himself and let me test drive it.

@Clarkie want to cool the jets? It's not something I heard or noticed, otherwise I wouldn't be on here asking for advice. An big oversight on my part, yes. And it wasn't that cheap.
