Just to close this out, I removed the cylinder head. The head gasket had lost its integrity and was allowing combustion pressure into the coolant. All fixed with a head clean up and a new gasket.
Does this mean you have not yet checked/done the swivel pin pre load since this thread was started?
Swivel pin pre load job does not need the hub removed unless pin or bush is worn.
Jack and support axle.

Are you sure you don't have this. It is just a cast slot on the back of the arm, the new ones for sale still have it (image below from an ebay ad for a new one). This allows you to put a correctly sized drill bit (do not ask me what size) into...
Lots of Landy's doing their stuff in 1965 Syfy yarn "Crack in World" about scientist who's project to use an atomic bomb to release thermal energy, of course it go's wrong. Mostly Series two hard tops to see but the Landy hero is a battered open...

A mate fitted a gas strut on his, says it is nice door can remain open on a side slope or in wind. However when he opens door a bit off it goes flying to a crash as it stop, you have to hang on to it...
I've a TDI 200 in my series, with uprated head and IP. I tow with it, and have been known the push it hard. No problems with the box, but I change the oil annually. And I change gear slowly. Ten years since I fitted the turbo.
I have done mine's intermediate shaft front O ring seal as above. Moved trans box back on two extra long bolts and then push shaft forward just enough to renew the O ring.
Why don't you post up the advert so we can help better?
Intermediate shaft o-ring can be changed with the transfer box still in the vehicle, almost, just about.
I have done it twice, although you do have to release the box and slide it back a bit.
Sounds good! Thanks for the replies.
This was actually the 2 signs of oil leak (other than screen wash!), this transfer box and also the rear diff. The rear diff just looks like the bung hasn't been tightened properly as theres signs of a small...
If that is your only issue with a 20 year plus truck you are very lucky.
Only a thorough clean up will disclose the exact cause of the leak. Also I think the oil has a red hue which says main box oil. Anyway it will be basic fix of gasket or...
Did mine two years ago, it was much worse than that. The whole bottom rail gone as well as some of vertical ones. Did fix it in the end but a lot more faff than doing a front door. Looking back a new door would have been better despite the cost...
Can be done but it is a right fiddle. There is a tool to do the job [see Youtube] but I have not ever seen one for real.
A trick is to put rod into a bit of plastic pipe with the clip on. Pipe is just long enough so when clip is tight at its end...
That’s blown the hub seals.
Check your breather pipe on the axle to see if it’s blocked . Check the bolt itself as well.
I know you say you checked them, can you blow through the pipe?
It’s unusual for the seals to go.unless you had cheap ones...
I have a special horn on mine for folk of a nervous disposition, starts as a hum of increasing volume before you get the full barp!:D:D Wonder if it will pass this years mot.
Classic fail that. Ran a 10j petrol for many years and had a couple of changes for that reason.
Recon all there is to do is clean it up and renew. I never used new head bolts, just made sure correct torque sequence done in stages up to 90lbft [...
I am going to buck the usual tend here and recommend the bottom end cheap britpart dampers. I had them fitted to mine for several years and a trip around morocco. at the time there were about £15 a corner and were perfectly adequate for the job...
