It is an Auto. Im used to driving a well tuned Impreza on the nice weekends so obviously its a bit of a slug in comparison, pleasantly surprised though as its no 'flat' and pulls really well. I think with a motor that's done 120k and is 21 years old I'd rather 'nurse' it a bit and not 'tune' ...

I gave the best description I could, as I've pointed out I'm not a mechanic. However I'm not 'simple' either. Being a plumber and gas engineer ,I'm used to dealing with problems and solving them, as well as having a good knowledge of GC8 Subaru's and MK3 Hilux.. This is my first Range Rover...

Hoping to get some more service history on it soon, with any luck its had it done in recent times . Are these motors chain or cam belt? I really should know more about it

I've no doubt that Forester would have got you there and back too, the motors like all are good when maintained properly. Were you involved with SWS at all or CSC? I was quite active with SWS organising run's out in the welsh hills etc but not so much these days, still have two GC8 Impreza's...

I hear you completely. As I say I'm just a DIY'er when it comes to mechanics and can only say what seems to have fixed it. After seeing the crud and how mashed the end of the valve was, we were both convinced on that being the cause. All wiring/connectors in the vicinity were checked and to be...

Grief, that does sound like a 'labour of love'. Thanks for the pointers . I'm quite realistic and appreciate it is now 21 years old so understand things might not always be plain sailing. Whether i'll keep it long term or not I'm not sure atm, we'll see how it goes. It won't have mega mileage...

I can only report on what was found and what resolved the issue. The repair on the wire to injector 4 didn't shut off the lamp, replacing the valve did and dare I say it through the various tests we did has cured it .

Your'e right , it was Wammers and another gent above !! I loves my fags, sugar and alcohol, please don't you start telling me too swell . Thanks for your input all the same . Oh I so hope you're wrong regarding reliability, I'm starting to get sentimental over the RR and iv'e only had it a few...

afternoon all, an update!! So I called with Karl this morning on the 'off chance' he had a little time to spare me. He didn't really, but fair play he dropped what he was doing and had a nosey for me. Plugged the Hawkeye in, no injector related fault, however the 'engine off solenoid' flagged...

I had a little look (in the dark might I add lol ) , indeed I found the injector that has a wire attached, 2nd one back from the bonnet back towards the windscreen ?! Didn't notice anything bad i.e exposed wiring or similar , are we thinking to try new sensor and/or injector? Hoping to have...

Haha its a bit daft, I'm into my Impreza's and on a couple of forums, it started from there where some friends who iv'e met from the Subaru club scene think of me as a hill billy sheep molester with 1 tooth and 3 eyes because of where I live and how I come across to them
