Thanks Mono78v, That's very helpfull. Pleased it's a three hour job (not)!! Looking at the door, I assume it is hard to get at, opportunity for grazed knuckles etc. Will now start a search for a replacement.

I have a 2003, 3 door, petrol, Freelander 1. Yesterday, I found that the passenger door no longer unlocks with the remote (the button doesn't pop up). It does appear to lock OK with the remote. but can only be unlocked using the inside handle. The driver door and rear door still lock and unlock...
