I am currently tying to figure out how to get a Saden AC mounted up. It's been a struggle to find JDP10026. I think I have a line on one....I am sure I'll get a "no longer stocked' email soon.

OP did say that the cab heater will blow warm air momentarily but then it's cold - symptoms of a blockage or air lock. Could it be the impeller on the water pump has come off and is sitting in the housing? This would be a minor blockage and would reduce flow

Yes, this or just remove the thermostat and see if the engine heats up still. You can also bleed the coolant lines at the thermostat housing.

The Rover T16 was used in various Rover Models and it had a turbo variant as well though the turbo version never found its way in to Defenders or Discoveries the best I can tell.
