Thanks for all the replies. The problem was, as mentioned here by some, a hole in the prop gaiter. Can't fix it for the moment, though have dabbed a bit of glue on the small hole to see if that, optimistically, will do the job while I continue my holidays!

The oil I can see is either dripping onto the prop near to where it connects to the engine (I'm not very mechanical minded!) because it is being sprayed onto the underside of the car, or it is being ejected from the prop itself from the rubber seal part. But if that was the case would it be...

I guess my question is based on what I've heard about the bmw td4 engines as used by landrover- i.e. the freelander engine management system doesn't do them justice. So that's why I ask. But then again I am a mechanical moron:)

2005 td4 searched the forums on this one and find a clear answer, so here goes. It's obvious that chipping improves performance, but would chipping make your engine less prone to turbo problems (or any other typical td4 reliablity probs)? What do you people think?
