Is the problem a slipping clutch or something that doesn't fit?! If it's a slipping clutch I would replace slave/master cylinders, which failing a new mainshaft seal which is major work :( I don't have a clue about the different types of conversions - having Land Rover standard matches are...

Well well, Time flies by! At the wiring stage now in the rebuild - and I'm changing from dynamo to alternator. Got a complete brand new wiring loom with all the associated stuff which includes the conversion kit from Autosparks - and a brand new series alternator from Paddocks. Has anyone...

Pretty much always the bottom spring plates for me (making sure the vehicle is chocked) - just make doubly sure it's firmly secured as you don't really want it rolling back off the trolley jack if that's what you're using!

Hi andrewsetchfield, I had a look inside the Dis. Cap today and I think the contacts are pretty filthy with some sort of buildup of grey stuff. Starter motor sort of starts, turns engine over but sometimes stops = possibly the lack of battery power. I doubt if the spark plugs are in great shape...
