guys, I have a 1997 300tdi. at 75 mph on motoerway the temp guage would read high. Just fitted a new rad. No more problems.

mine has 146k miles. Passed MOT with very low emmissions. Pulls like a train. Had a ton of oak in the trailer today. Hardly noticed it. Have a good look at that pump.

Mine had corrosion in top of fuel injection pump as some dic waded it too deep. Sucked water in through breather. I was getting little turbo boost as a result. Pump rebuild and Allard intercooler, refurbed injectors and now a rocket ship! She also went from 22 to 30 mpg as long as I dont welly it!

get this. the series 3 does 35MPG at 65. about 32MPG at 75 i choose the 32MPG usually. Are you sure! Dodgy speedo? wishful thinking? :-)

I run mine at 65mph on motorway. Checked speed with GPS as speedo is inaccurate with big typres on. Does 30mpg at 65mph with about 9 psi boost. Engine tuned a little but great for fuel ecenomy

Ditto lift pump advice. I had no power when I first got my 300, Was lift pump. Was ok at low revs but no fuel at high revs. Semms bit like your problem

I have a 100 amp alternator, a 12000lbs winch and two batteries in parallel. No problem with 100 amp on the standard belt set up on defender 300 tdi. Have had issues with alarm flattening batteries but alternator has charged back up with no belt slip problem. With two flat 110amp hour batteries...

If you go above 100amps you are likely to increase loads dramatically on your pulleys. 100amps is approximately 4 hp load. If you doubled this to a 200amp alternator it would put 8hp load through pulleys. Belt slip is highly likely to say the least.I would still suggest doubling the battery...

Why do you think you need a bigger alternator? If you only have two batteries you have say 230 amp hours of capacity combined. It would be a waste of time putting another alternator on or even an oversized alernator. Without the battery capacity you probably are not even using the full output...

Karlos28 you could tweek the turbo but how much is safe? Mine runs 16psi on full boost. My Defender has 145k miles on it. The engine is good but she is getting a little long in the tooth to start overloading everything with a high power engine. I guess she is running about 135bhp. The centre box...

You dont need to do the turbo. Mine goes very well with Allard intercooler and tweeked pump. Its fuel efficient when you want it to be and fast when you want it to be but not at the same time:D
