OK guys now I'm confused! My 110 has the 2.25 petrol. I think that was the engine in the series III. Are there any engines that are pretty straightforward swaps? 200tdi, 300tdi, 3.5 V8? Need to get the car back to work ASAP, on a budget with little experience!!! Need to know what to look for...

No way! It has a 2.25 petrol and cant pull the skin off a rice pudding! I thought the disco 200tdi had the turbo in the wrong place. Bear with me I'm learning!!!!

I have cooked the engine in my 1983 110 and been told that a 200tdi off a defender will be a straight swap. Unfortunately they are like hens teeth! Anybody know what other engines fit without changing mounting points or using conversion kits? Cheers
