Yep, blank both the Vacuum pipe and stub off. The fuel filter is indeed behind the rear offside wheel. They're a bit of a pain to remove from the assembly. I had to use a hammer and piece of wood to tap the filter out of the holder. Well worth doing though as the fuel was really dirty.

Cleaned her to within an inch of her life and put her up for sale :(

My pump/filter bracket was plastic.

I swapped both pump and filter recently. The fuel coming out of the filter was heavily soiled.

Ouch! I see what you mean by screaming. Mine's a TD4. No idea if the ratio's are different, but I'd suggest they are as the tyres alone cannot account for 600rpm.
