Check the output of the alternator, the voltage regulator on them can pack up and allow higher voltages, one symptom is higher bulb failure, brighter lights and fast wipers.

Hi thanks for the replies. Been looking around, at my budget there does not seem to be a great deal with less than a 100k on the clock. How much life would a v8 have left in it? I guess servicing is the biggest issue, but at 10 years old I reckon that gets a bit slack with most...
