The speedo was off anyways so I tried again and managed te remove the needle with a fork. Was quite easy actually. I have taken apart the mechanism as far as I could without doing damage and found the culprit. The screw shaped gear that drives the odometer won’t turn and moves upwards instead...

Aha, is there anyway to take the needle off so I can take apart the mechanism at back of the speedo?

Well, I just had a brainwave and decided to use my batterydrill to power the angle drive (as Jeremy Clarkson would say: “sometimes I am frightened by my own genius”). Not only have I established that the speedo works as it should, but also that my batterydrill runs about 50mph. However, I kept...

I took the cable out and pulled it out of its sleeve. I can’t see any sign of damage whatsoever, so I am afraid that Norsemen was right and the speedo has had its day…

Well, I rather first check the speedocable before emptying my pockets on a new unit🫠

Haha, yeah I got that. But is it supposed to be so loose that you can fiddle it in almost any direction (not just clockwise or counterclockwise)?

I haven’t been able to source an speedocable yet. However, I have taken off the angle drive and sprayed some Teflonspray on it. Sadly this didn’t do the trick. I did notice that small pin that fits into the speedo was very loose. Is it supposed to be? Or does that mean it’s broken? If I turn it...

Aha, a friend of mine also warned me to use Teflonspray instead, so I’ll give that a try

Ah great, I will check the cable first and give the angle drive a bit of WD-40 for good measure👌🏻

Hi Everyone, I have an odd problem with my speedometer on my 1983 Range Rover Classic (powered by 200tdi from disco 1). The speedomoter was working fine when suddenly it started going beserk. The speedo is constantly jumping up and down whilst making a clicking noise. When you speed up the pace...
