Good morning Datatek
The trailer lights are behaving erratically on my P38. Only the left indicator is working correctly until you switch the main lights on then lights flashing half lit. Sockets and wiring are clean.
The truck was converted to...
RF interference (loads on here) or aftermarket stereo draining it - usually switched and permanent live mixed up. Or headlight wipers not parked properly.
The P38 is not unique, every car I have ever had the cig lighter has been ignition controlled even my 1986 Toyota.
I connect the solar panel via the trailer socket.
If you have a charger, put the battery on charge for 24 hours, you may find some of your problems then disappear. The P38 needs a lot of power. They do not like batteries going flat.
Check crank sensor & connector. It's down the left passenger side of the engine, & a common location for oil or moisture to get in.
When it dies, do other electrics cut out as well ? I had an issue with the main battery connection on a...
Yeah, there was a whole in the piece between the windshield and the bonnet for an antenna for the after market radio. Quite likely the water is slowly dripping down the cable, the antenna is still but will have to go as well.
Prep day to tackle the main harness tomorrow. That meant removing the front carpets, seat and cubby box. Turnes out you do NOT have to remove the heater unit, the harness passes well between the heat the bulkhead. Also, all connections to the...
Was talking to mate of mine yesterday who said why would I recommission my 4.2v8 over the much cheaper to run E class, I said look at the cost of repair on them and issues diesels can have over petrol, and in Land Rover world there is plenty of...
It's not the current that is the problem, it's the 400 plus volts that can jump out and take you by surprise.
I wonder if there really is a mechanical circuit breaker rather than isolation via ECU and semiconductors?
The engines are not too hot these days, crank failures, oil pump failures, cracked heads etc. and look at how short lived are the suspension bushes on a modern Range Rover.
That is a nice find. It even has pre-amp line level outs, so you could convert them to balanced and use them in a High Line P38.....like mine. Is it expensive?
That's the exact reason I'm looking at that unit! You can choose from around 4000 colours for the backlighting, so not only can I have green backlighting I can have the correct shade of green 😁
Mine would randomly cut out while driving, sometimes it would just spin over and not start.. sometimes for a few seconds, other times longer.
In my case it was a dodgy fusebox
