With my steel rule method, it's almost as quick to do the timing as it is to fit the hot start box.

Realise this. I fitted it back when the car was daily driven, and needed a ‘quick fix’ - now it’s an occasional weekend car there’s a whole list of jobs to put it back to proper.

Got to do mine at some point.

The hot start fix is a bodge with the modulation correct, my car starts immediately hot or cold.

The glove box can be a right pain in the arris to get open and working properly :(

All done. Bought some M5 x 25mm bolts from Wickes this morning and it went in first time. Bracket lines up properly and all. Shame it was a 50 pack - anybody need 49 spare bolts? 😆 Pressure tested to 15 psi for about 10 mins, and no leaks...

When i did both rears a few years ago, there were surprisingly easy and no swear words required

I think you are imagining an extreme situation and not looking at this in reality. For example, someone else said that the oil pressure would be lower and that would damage the engine. But I can drive now at 40mph at the same approximate revs...

Waited until it was ‘cool enough’ to run the glow plugs. Started on the button. I’ll remember this for next time! I have got a synergy box set up solely to treat the hot start issue. I think I’m going to have to look at 1) removing the synergy...

Finally after more than a year, repaired the plastic tabs on my lower tailgate trim last night. 2mm aluminium strips glued with Sticks Like SH*T. All nicely bonded, and re-installed just now. The cover has been flapping for ages.

If it's not loss of sync, then it could be FIP timing. When the modulation was over 80% on my project car, it was almost impossible to start it when hot.
