I have a 2003 LR Defender TD5 with about 188 000Km done by the engine, NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS, until a recent trip to Zambia. The Landy started to loose power and ref very high. At a stage it was so bad it struggeled to get 60km/h. A local service station to have a look, but found no faults...
