The new Defender can show considerable surface rust underneath after less than two years. l treated mine with wax but few do.
See photo as an example.
(The owner was worried it might have fractured where he drew the red line but it hadn't)...
lt's interesting being on the Grenadier forum as well as the Land Rover one.
As it shows where the market has gone with the car buying public.
Some models of the new Defender come with rear towing eyes, and there's a steady stream of owners...
Had my D300 110 Defender for 20 months from new and no issues regarding reliability and it’s a great vehicle on and off road,
However off road you soon realise what big cars they are, for example, Stile end in the Lake District, getting through...
lf it was a broken half shaft you should still be able to drive the vehicle if you engage the differential lock.
However if the clutch pedal has gone light, it sounds like something else has failed. It could be the clutch fork, it can wear so...
l fear that arranging shipping from SA is going to put off U.K. buyers.
Do you have an estimate of the shipping costs to the U.K. including import taxes etc? Would a U.K. buyer have to pay VAT?
Sorry — didn’t think to update you.
It’s sorted now. The mechanic said the adjuster (at the master cylinder I assume) was wound right the way out and he hadn’t adjusted it when he fitted the new clutch.
My theory is that the fluid expanded in...
My other bug bear other than the no return on thread is the ones with a problem which several of us here give good similar advice on how to sort but the still go off down their own road on what they think the issue is and coming back again with...
Again no update, so frustrating. I hope he got it sorted, l wonder what the fault was in the end.
My guess would be oil contamination on the clutch, but the mechanic who replaced it should have noticed if that was the case.
Maybe you're looking in the wrong place for the source of the thumping noise. What about the harmonic damper at the front of the crankshaft, when that's failing it can cause some strange noises.
l've found this as well, looked at a fair few Puma's that looked nice but chassis wasn't great, and seen a few TD5's that clearly haven't been looked after but the chassis was still good.
l think half the problem with the Puma is, nobody treated...
No harm was done, except emotional trauma. Sure, it could have been worse if she had been on the motorway etc, but it wasn't.
l can see how it could make you lose confidence in the vehicle. My Defender slammed the brakes on when l was turning...
lt looks like "Jeff" posted to complain about his vehicle and then never came back after his original post.
Hopefully it's been fine since the repair, but we'll likely never know.
No visible registration number, bodywork looks reasonable from the couple of poor photos.
£5,000? Assuming it has a valid MOT. lf the chassis has had it you could easily spend in the region £6-10,000 to get it sorted.
You can buy "plug and play" where you just plug the replacement ECU in.
l think it's just the immobiliser that's disabled.
There's a company near me who does them. Around £700 when l bought one.
The TD5 engine should be fine, you might take ancillary items such as an alternator and water pump. Oh and a spare ECU as they are now starting to fail without warning and you won't repair that at the side of the road.
Good 110's tend to be £15,000+
That 2005 90XS looks like a great price if the chassis is good, definitely worth a visit to view it.
Again, that's the best specification and the best year (after they fitted the better doors but before the big...
What about that blue one on Ebay. lt's an earlier one (but it's got the updated dash which was introduced in 2002) and not the XS so no ABS/aircon etc. ln fact it's the basic SW with vinyl seats and no central locking or electric windows...
