I've had no issue with the area round the plastic trims on my XS. Just the usual rust on the arches inside the rear doors and the area surrounding the boot floor.

I've carried out the bit of wood mod myself in the past - Ive gone with a lump of rubber upgrade this time!! Also had to replace the broken spot welds on the regulators with (very short!) bolts. When apart you could see only one of the spot welds had penetrated hence them breaking. Need to...

I came across an easy solution as my hands were too big for it - get the wife to do it :p. The seat definitely caused most of the problem. The number of times I've changed bulbs I should have taken the seat out!

I think cutting through them is the easiest way. I had same problem with a Mondeo; they are notorius for it. They cut surprisingly easily with a hacksaw - when cut near to the hub try and split with a hammer & chisel - they should just fall away.

Similar noise from mine was a rear shocker - worth a check! Had me puzzled for a while.
