My need may be more urgent than you getting around to this and running them for a bit but keep us posted incase you do it before I swap out my disks

Yep, starting like a dream. The green/red indicator on the old battery suggests it's okay but at 8+ years I'm not so sure. I did wonder about keeping hold of it or offering it to @Nodge68 for his projects? but if not it'll go

New battery in. What should be a five minute job was a swine because of the clamp bolt but it's done. Had to reset an SRS error but on the plus side. Gear changes are smooth as silk now.

Battery tested. It's duff. Just gone to get a new one and tried to fit it. That's not gone so well. I have the old favourite of the clamp bolt not coming out due to the captive nut spinning. Chuffing thing :rolleyes:

It's a bit of an odd one as two or three weeks ago in the first instance the car had been fine then on a random occurance it did not turn over. No click or anything. Just dead. I looked at starter connections, including the signal connection (which was not overly secure) and after a wiggle it...

Had a local Land Rover group meetup today, followed by a little bit of light laning. That was all good apart from embarrasment before we even got going with the engine not turning over as we were about to set off. It appears I now have an internittent starting issue! It also wouldn't start again...

I'm just wondering people's thoughts... I'm contemplating a new thread. Now just humour me for a minute and hear me out. I'd love to have your thoughts on this idea as I think it would really help us all in complying with the OP's request. New thread title.. "Do NOT ignore this thread" I...

For the benefit of all future readers it might be good if you shared the detail of that. It might make you come out of this thread less negatively

So after our conversation Andy I did alot of reading and looking around and my conclusion is the drilled and grooved disks will only benefit you if you're driving at high performance levels, and for typical Freelander type driving - on or off road - you're better off with the increased surfaced...

I use the Carlube stuff but other firms do ATF-U (Millers and Triple QX to name two) so if you can get them and as long as the spec is the same I should imagine they would be okay, but others may advise.

That merc is absolutely lovely. One of those would be in my "modest" classics collection if I won the lottery
