As it happens I have just bought an adapter harness from Dynamic Sounds to fit the Sony head unit

OK thanks, so if I get the wheel with controls I just need a wiring adapter for the radio and it should all work? The wiring to the steering wheel should already be wired to the multi connector? Does this only apply to a compatible freelander head unit?
