Mines got a noise on the left hand side (passenger side), a very annoying rattle / bearing type noise. The noise is louder in second gear on de-celeration but goes when i press the clutch in. Does this sound like the noise your expierencing Ian.:(

I have a similar noise problem which is worse on deceleration but if i dip the clutch the noise go's. Would this rule out the "loose baffle theory" and so causing it to be something else ?

Does anybody know any Land Rover specialists in and around the Warrington area ? I've got a noisy / grinding Freelander which is just getting on my nerves now. I'm not taking it to a stealer !!!!!!!! Thanks

Did it cure the fault in the end ? I get a grinding noise from mine which seems to be coming from the middle of the bulk head and heading towards the passenger front wheel. Its noisier when slowing down to about 1500rpm in second gear. Did yours do this as i suspect my IRD has gone. Done the...

Just out of interest if your vcu or ird go, would they make any noises whilst driving ? ie like metal on metal noise ? Thanx

Do the problems mentioned happen on the TD4 engine ?

Thanks for the advice on the problem but would anybody know if this problem still applies to the TD4 engine or was the bracket replaced with a more substantial one on the 2002 build Freelanders. Probably not I guess. :D

Mine sounds exactly the same only it can be heard more in second gear. I put mine into a garage under the warranty, they diagnosed it as a worn clutch and flywheel which the warranty wouldn't pay for and I got the bill. Problem went away for about a week and then returned and the warranty people...

It does it mainly when slowing down and it can be heard more prominently in 2nd gear. I think I can hear it in 3rd 4th and 5th but cant be sure. It's not there permantly but cornering does tend to set it off also. Towing a caravan also tends to set it off ie when under load. I dont think its...
