Thin cable excites the alternator to make a change.
So light should be on with ignition.
Once running the charge should turn out the light.
Make sure little cable goes on little connector. The 2 large lugs are joined
Or keep it under the boot floor, around the spare wheel.
If you make sure you double lock the car every time, the only way in is through a broken window, and accessing the under boot floor without the rear hatch open is basically impossible...
Hi all sorry for the delayed response and thank you for the words of wisdom.
Yes the transfer box has been leaking as i top it up every year with about 0.5 litre of oil.
However after taking the advice i jacked up and spun the rear wheels, and...
Up bright and early, Dog walked and the boxes arrived right after lunch Dandy
Got it all unpacked and checked over and got started.
Gave the casings a whiff of silver to try to slow the oxidisation process
While that was drying I started to...
So ask members to measure theres as a reference.
Do you have a good front position?
Is your rear crossmember good?
Plank off wood on the ground a few plumbline measurments marked on the plank. Bobs your uncle :D (could be your aunt🤔 though these...
@Anaconda thank you for your speedy response (again!) - yes sorry 2004. But as the latch fits, I do wonder whether ordering a new set of 2004+ barrels would work. I cannot find a pre-2004 latch, unless I am being completely dim. Which would not...
Thanks Kermit. Why had I not thought of that! I am gonna stick with the thermostat as is, as thats how the original engineers designed the cooling system. I live in a frost pocket too, so I do need the heat to defrost the cab. Having replaced the...
The Sleeved casing and a big box of goodies is due to arrive from Ashcroft's tomorrow.
I have removed all the bearings from their various locations and cleaned up all the bits.
I called in a favour and got the casings blasted, as I'm going to...
Everythings been pretty good for a while!
Except when I fitted new wiper blades, turned them on and got stuck...
Now the wipers are rather weak, so that only means one thing...
Wiper overhaul 😥 one job i rather dread....
In the mean time...
Doubt you fried it but you could have jammed it in gear. Try putting it in gear say 3rd high with ignition off and rock the truck back and fore. Given it's a Landy you may need a couple of mates to help do this.
Throw up some pictures as it may help. I am not familiar with the new gearboxes. But the older ones had a couple of small earth cables for the difflock switch’s etc. and also has reverse switch wiring as well.
So warning light is on with ign on but engine not running?
Then when you start the engine the warning light stays on?
Sure the warning light wire is on the correct terminal? pic of the back of the alt might help someone pinpoint your issue.
I don't know your car, but on Volvo's it was the sort of ratchet mechanism that advanced the counter getting gummed up that stopped it working. A wash out with contact cleaner followed by a little clock oil sometimes fixed the problem.
Based on my own experience ('87 3.5efi) failure of the odometer is a prelude to the speedo itself developing a very 'wavy' needle, which will result in MOT failure when the time comes. I've attempted to have mine repaired but the specialist was...
