You can keep a tdi running with a 9v battery from a tv remote wired into the stop solenoid. They really are the old fashioned mechanical type that require virtually no power to run. On this I went with the safe option to protect the battery...

That may well be the case as it seems to have fixed the leak just replacing the o-ring and putting the cover back on. Without the black seal. The test drive home will confirm.

Maybe someone fitted new o ring and left old one in there.

It will run with the engine running if you bash the heater box,, poor connection inside most likely. I will try a separate earth at some point before the heater box comes out.

If it only runs when other stuff is off, could it be that the fan motor is trying to ground though somthing that is being pulled "high" when the other stuff is running? I would start by running a temporary ground from the heater, to a known good...

@dag019 Nothing will fall out. There is just the o ring Make sure the bolts are tight. Mine came loose & pushed the o ring out a bit Don’t have the size,I had a spare pump & just swapped the seal over

If that is an A127 alternator, it is three screws and a few minutes to drop in a new brush pack, I think newer A127 on 300 motors are different.
