British Wardog is 100% correct but tyre wear is the biggest cause of damaged VCU. The VCU is a limited slip item and the greater the speed diff between front and rear drive the more heat is generated in the VCU causing it to lock up as designed, now a 4x4.

Left rear CV joint breaks at the circlip which allows the CV to slide out a bit. This damages the diff splines and then no drive. Any ideas on what may be causing this guys/

My experience with this diff problem is that they have painted the inner diff housing and with time and heat the paint makes grinding paste. Strip remove paint and crud fit new bearings and all is well . D3'S have the same problem. would have thought they had learnt from their LT 77 gearbox issues.

I cannot understand why a problem of this magnitude is recognised after the fact and not during testing and development of such a great vehicle!

Statement of the obvious Vissie but I need to know how to unjam the plot rather than replace with possibly the most ridiculously priced part on this great vehicle!

I've got one that seems as though the diff lock is engaged and only dissengages if unplugged at the rear diff lock motor. Any ideas on this one

Found the fault. Dealer bent the passenger side aircon pipe which forced turbo boost sensor wire against sharp corner on cylinder head. Repaired and no more problem.

Persistant turbo boost fault. After turbo replacement all is well until about 6 mnths when the fault returns. 3 turbos later the fault has returned. On replacing the last turbo we also did the de cat and EGR blanking kit. The first 2 were replaced by the agents.

Phil you have given me new hope. My 1.8 missfires badly when cold and will hardly pull off. Once warm it's a rocket.I have replaced H.T coil,plug wires dist. rotor and plugs.Injectors have been sonically cleaned and tested O.K.Intake manifold checked for leaks and eventually a brand new head...

I do not understand how this could happen unless it was accident damage.and neither of the vehicles have been thus damaged.

The crank is broken cleanly in half.A metalurgist has checked the first crank and feels that it is a casting fault. I will post pics.The first has been replaced and the second has not yet been removed from the block.

Sadly just been shattered by my second TD4 Freelander with a broken crankshaft. Both Landrover and BMW deny having this problem. Am I alone or has anyone heard of this and what may have caused this? The first broke in the front between no 1 rod journal and timing chain,the second in the middle...

If your roof leaks then remove and check the under dash fusebox and you will find surface tracks on the board. Should you have got it early enough then a good clean and fuse check will repair it.

Sounds like your mechanic may have botched the fitting of the new pads.Check ASAP before it does costly damage.

Hi guys,got a new problem here and one that appears to be rare.Td4 engine has water in the engine oil.I have checked all the usual,head gasket ,oil water cooler-heater and have not yet found a cure,any ideas guys.A local claimsn he had a similar issue and the block was cracked ???
