got engine in, primed turbo, disconnected the fuel cut of wire, turned engine over till oil light went out reconnected wire turned key for 3 secs and it roared into life THANK GOD

If you are totally striping it down make sure you keep everything in order so you put it back as it was, ie which piston went in which bore try not to mix parts up

I thought oiling the bore was ample. do I need to start againe or will they get oil when I turn it over?

the piston rings didn't need altering. I put them in the boar and pushed them down a bit with a piston to make sure they was level the gap was 0.40 top ring and 0.40 middle ring but I didn't oil the rings just the boar (idiot) I will check the piston heights james thanks

managed to upload a pic of the aircon mount on a defender engine

the bit at the front of the engine where the air con bolts to are different on the defender it is at an angle and on the discovery it is flat.

does anyone else have a wandering knob problem ?
