thanks to everyone who is helping, i am making a list of all things you are suggesting, please keep the ideas coming, i really need all the help i can get.

when i get the juddery refusal to accelerate i also get excessive blue smoke from exhaust

we do have short perioids where it appears to run fine, but because i am usually on country lanes i dont put the foot down too much, so even on periods where it appears to be running good i could not for certain say it would of gone past 2800, help!!!!

not 4x4 specialists but i am rural so they get their fair share of 4x4's in.

i had it refurbed, would that require the governor to be tampered with?

bennybenny yes had cambelt in march, that could be relevant as its about when it all started, what are you thinking

i will check that, but even when the turbo is not working ie in 5th at 55mph it still wont rev past 2800 could that still be the turbo?, how can i check the boost pressure? it feels ok in 1st, 2nd (until 2800 that is).

could it be the engine timing as someone has suggested?

the lift pump is an ancilliary item next to the engine block, i have replaced it with a new non landy part, is that what you meant sorry for my poor description

forgot to mention i also replaced the front pipe with a non cat pipe in case this was the problem....it all adds up to a pretty penny.

yes, thats my thoughts, maybe have to get fuel pipes replaced front to back, i suppose its possible that the hard plastic fuel lines can crack/split?

had the tank sender replaced last week and new fuel pipes fitted from the sender to the sedimenter, would the unions have been replaced whilst the above work being completed?

how would this be evident? i have checked the jubilee clips on intercooler top hose, i initially thought i had air getting into the fuel system, every time i changed something ie fuel filter or cleaned out sedimenter it would run fine for a short while, after a while i decided i was not finding...
