Thank you all for your experiences. Cosmetically I’d like to go for a mk2 but concerned about potentially higher maintenance costs. I’m on a budget and knowing the issues I’d experienced in the past my look out for a mk1 still. I’ll see what becomes available in my budget. Thanks everyone

Do you know if there is a difference between the tailgate handles from the early mk1 or the facelift 2004 which mine is, looking on ebay at the moment?

Thankd Mike thats what i did inititally after changing fob housing and it worked then but not now. I am sending ot off to the ebay man for the fob repair so hopefully that will sort it. Will keep everyone posted.....
