Have you checked that you have not nudged the the dash dimming button, you would not be the first to have done it and stipped bits apart before finding out.

The BMW inpa software may should work on your car, its a free download but you need the right cable to connect to a laptop there are companys that will see you the cable and software along with back up for about £70 may be worth a shot ibelive you go in under the X5 settings, others on here know...

They take up the space at the sides behind the wheel arches when you have the ridged boot liner, so not fixed in place.

It should roar like a tank on start up then go quiet then roar again when it gets hot. just because its turning does not mean its working right.

They did a 4,o petrol manual there is a box on ebay...
