    If the motor runs, but doesn't unlock there's probably stripped gears inside. Most P38 latches suffer failing microswitches, but the motors do fail - mainly the brushes. I have repaired some of mine. There's about 6 or 7 screws holding...

    Have you tried using the key fob next to the rear window to the right hand side of the tail gate as the ariel for the RF unit may be disconnected to stop battery drain.
