Yes I have managed to pry open the washer ring that holds the seal whilst the piston is still attached with the compressor but I used a small thin screwdriver and typed the ring enuf so that I can remove all of the old seal

I will try with a mini grinder/ polisher because the piston is still in the compressor because I am unable to unscrew the Alan key holding the piston crank against the centr shaft
