I Always make a note of where seals are sitting before removing old ones. As the originals would have been there the longest there may be some witness marks left to go by if LR did recess your ones.

Sorry you've had so much aggro. That was one of the first jobs I had to do on mine back in 2021 & I think it was NAK seal I used on SF's recommendation & it's been fine since. Don't forget proper cleaning can make all the difference, even when I take the wheels of any of the family's vehicles out comes the wheel cleaner (or wonder wheels depending on how bad they are) to get all the brake dust off ! Like you say always the longest bit of most jobs but we'll worth it...
