Can anyone tell me the symptoms of a naff xyz switch

The obvious signs are the 2 green gear shape warning lights flashing! Also prob locked in 3rd gear.

Agree with robgeev. Cured mine by holding in the button on the gear lever and moving it vigorously backwards and forwards.
