as above are these a common fault with td5s,as mine has stopped working.you can get them second hand but is it better getting a new one :crutch:
 
Water can leak onto the xyz from the air con drain. fit a new xyz and extend the drain tube past the new switch.
 
xyz switch is rubbish bit of kit just like the car,always something going wrong spending all the time worst car I,ve ever had

Well the only failure I've had on my TD5 in the three years that I've owned it is a rear light which leaks water and the bulb kept blowing.
 
The xyz switch is the gear selector position switch on the auto box, to find it look under the left air con drain tube.

No sorry, there is a few on ebay. I don't know if the connector is the same on disco's and P38's. If you buy a new one they are better sealed but still extend the air con drain if you are keeping it.
 
;) sorry, forgot the smiley to go with my flippant comment - I was aware that other models have an xyz switch (but not that many, so learned something! Thanks). It was just that my local garage have been having a nightmare with a customer's D3; they're glad I got the D2 :D
 
yes mate it the series 2,do the switches pack up on a regular bases,think I,m gonna take it out and give it a good clean up see what its like then.lol
 
Tis actually a WXYZ switch - and a darn good indicator of the way TATA has wound up prices of parts that are known common failures.

You won't be able to mend it, I have taken them apart in the past.

There is a new one on Ebay for £180 + 6.50 pp
 
When you fit the new switch there is a small hole in the case of the switch that lines up with a hole in the gearbox case, there is a special tool but just use a rod of the right size.
