Posted in the Tratter section but no response so far, but I thought I would ask the wider audience....

1988 Ninety with a Disco 200TDi Engine and Power Steering (4 hole) box....

Is it easier to remove the drop arm or the ball joint??

I ask as I need to replace the joint, but they can be a right sod to remove, so which is the lesser of the two evils, remove drop arm from the box and replace or remove the ball joint and replace??

ball joint!

I did it the other week and it was a piece of piss

Getting the whole arm off - utter **** - unless you have the correct puller. Unless your really lucky!

made a huge difference as well!

The fiddliest bit of replacing the ball joint, I found, was getting the cover plate over the spring sufficiently deep enough to fit the circlip. Got it with a bearing puller, but it was fiddly.

New joint ordered so we'll see what fun that turns out to be!! Thanks for the tips Vil.

Yourll probably have suitable kit to remove remove it.

I bought the special tool and it was a joy to use. Dead cheap and probably saved many minute hunting around looking for the right sockets etc.

+1 but the other way is real easy when the box has leaked all over it:D

My arm was loose on the box spline so I tightened it up proper tight with a 40" breaker then I saw the ball joint was knackered.....
