1998 auto edc Discovery 1....

Would low auto box fluid cause the check engine light to come on? I have been having real issues the past few weeks. It will drive but the engine light is constantly on from the word go..... before the engine is even started!

It is like it is in some form of limp home mode like my Transit has done in the past :(
 
No i dont think that would cause the engine light its more likely to lose gears with a low fluid level, its easy to check though there is a dipsitick for the auto box try that first

Yup, there is fluid in there. I didn't know whether there was maybe a blockage somewhere. All gear are correct and present so I guess that answers it :(

I am getting desperate now and am stabbing in the dark really to try and find the cause of my Check Engine Light :(
 
Hmm. Yes, as others have said, I'd haver thought it unlikely to be just about the gearbox. Following on from Dippy's point, don't forget the condition of the wiring itself. I had weird electronic faults with engine permanently in limp mode last summer on my TD5 and it turned out to be deterioration of the wiring loom. I assume yours is a 300 tdi so less electronics than me but if the engine itself is relatively sweet, then I'd be looking at the condition of the wiring loom and sensors.
 
I have plugged it into the Snap-on Solus and it is showing 142 injection begin sensor as the error. I clear the code, turn the ignition back on and it flags the code up again straight away after the glowplug cycle before the engine is even started.

I am thinking then no.4 injector :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:
 
I got a no.4 injector in a head from someone this morning. Pressed the injector out and put it into mine. IT LIVES!! NO MORE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!!!

But it does sound like a steam train at the moment as it is blowing past the copper washer as I do not have any new ones until monday. Power is restored as like I said - no more check engine light and no more fault codes.

Chuffed to bits :)

Now got to sort burnt out brand new alternator. Over heating problem and crabbing while driving. Still loads to do :(
