Cooee M8s, I have at last seen the light and am buying a lanny. (un) fortunately I am getting it on the motability scheme as I am disabled and have trouble walking, so in real terms I will get it for nothing and can parl on dubble yellas and in the spakka spaces in Tescos!!:D
 
Excellent move, now you will really be able to go pretty much anywhere!! What have you got / are getting?

you can get a semi automatic clucth system that allows you to drive a manual,
it come in at less than the price of having an auto fitted and can be transfered to yer next car. i've fitted them to every thing from minis to motorhomes, a 1920 something lagonda reet up to late model mercs and the like. Even 4wd and trucks. so you dont need be stuck with an auto
 
Err Slob, lost use of both legs (bummer) so even without clutch would still need manual controls for going n stopping perhaps!

ffs, i spent year adapting cars fer disabled drivers, folk with short or no legs, folk with the use of only one limb, ave put accelartor pedal on to the other side of the brake along with a auto clutch system so a one legged fooker could drive his cossie. ave converted many motorhomes so folk without either their legs or the use of their legs can still enjoy their motoring holidays.
i've even help sort out cars fer disabled racing drivers such as the late clay ragatoni, marc haynes and the son of an ex williams F1 driver.

so am well aware that yer need hand controls fer yer brake and accelerator. the question is whether yer have simple push pull things that int ideal as they mean you only have one hand on the wheel. or you can have an accellerator ring either infront of, or behind yer steering wheel with a brake bar placed where it best suits yer.
you can even have a hydraulic brake set up and electronic accel. if you don't have sufficint upper body strength to operate the manual versions.
and if yer can't get in yer car you can have a power seat that slides in and out to assist or perhaps you liked to have a lift fitted to the side of your van fer easy access. or maybe just a hoist to get your wheel chair in
 
I bow to your superior knowledge that you didn't let onto when talking about the clutch fing;) So, when some fooker has enough of me and tears me arm off, i'll give you a call:D
 
it dunt matter if its a manwell or an auto you still need the acc/brake on hand controls so i dint see the need to mention it to yer man as he'll already be aware of the need fer hand controls. my orginal point , to him, was the fact that you don't need to have an auto if yer legs dint work
 
I have a friend who was paralysed from the waist down He has a VW transporter and a Trike with a Beetle engine in it. Both are controlled only by hand controls.
 
The Auto was my choice as I prefer it for off roading, and as I aint paying for the alterations it semed churlish not to ramp the prices right up lol
