Evening chaps,

Finally got the freelander fixed after much arguments with finance company and dealership, it now seems to start and idle alot better and feel generally smoother but I still don't trust it and having joined this forum again but this time as a hippo owner I cant really see me trusting it in future either.

They just seem like a poorly engineered unreliable pain of a motor to own and I wish I had went for the shogun that I could have bought for the same price.

Hindsight is a great thing! :(

Hopefully it will start scoring brownie points with you now - it is difficult way back when you have lost faith in your motor. I would ride the remainder of the warranty hard and after that if you are still unhappy, then get shot of it!
 
i lost faith and wanted to kick the **** out of it and burn the fecking thing but i absolutaly love it now! and i will do untill the next episode! lol enjoy :)
 
Is it petrol or diesel , and how old ? , the grass is greener on the other side (NOT) my mate got a mitu****ty L200 on a 52 plate , spent a lot on it , could not get it to run right , now up for sale at a loss to him

Its a td4 2004 model, the thing has been a pain in the hole since I got it 3 or so weeks ago! Lol

As for the few that say get a disco, I did used to have one about 5 years ago and was on this forum a lot.
Cant remember what my old user name was mind you lol!

The disco was fab during my ownership, only issues it has was exhaust was knacked so got replaced with a new one and the distributor cap cracked and I just replaced that, everything else was bliss with it.

I thought I would go for the td4 freelander as it is more economical than the disco but still a decent size, I believed the td4 was a great engine but tbh it seems very troublesome and nowhere near as good as its bmw car version.
Hopefully things smooth out with the motor however I still wish I had spent the near £4k on something better.

The old Fleabag is a bit of a lottery and many of us would have made a different choice if we had done our homework (I would have gone Disco). That said, you have the bleddy thing now, so lets hope it starts to behave itself!!:)
 
That TD4 is the same engine as fitted to the 320 BMW. Both share the same faults but the Freelander works it's engine harder!!

Indeed I do have the "bleddy" thing now and finance company have now put case as resolved now that dealer has fixed the issues I had with motor from purchase which shouldn't have been there when it was sold to me.

Faults it had were - hard starting when cold and horrific rough idle until it warmed up which it would then calm down. Turned out to be 2 dodgy injectors, dealer said nothing was wrong with freelander so I decided to get an independent report done by a land rover specialist which highlighted a few things.
Turbo hose from inlet manifold to intercooler was kinked at end.
Vacuum solenoid for turbo was not fixed in place causing it to frey the aux belt.
Droplink needed replaced and rear brake cluster faulty.

All is ok now but I was raging at how dealership could sell a car with these faults, I am not too mechanically clued up and put my trust in garage as they seemed to treat the sale with care and excellent customer service or so I thought, I dont trust them as far as I can throw them and even though freelander is now fixed I dont trust it yet.

Hopefully that changes but I do regret buying it now.

So it was more the DEALERS fault than the car then!

i.e selling, what needed fixing first.

Well the dealership never prepped it properly which is ridiculous as they were going to check it over completely before I picked it up and do a full service with 6 months tax and a years mot.

They put it through an mot and passed it when it should have failed so I am going to report mot situation to vosa.

Its now ok (touch wood) but I am not convinced that it is a quality vehicle the freelander having read some of the horror stories both online and via this forum.

Shouldn't need to worry about vcu's etc but seems that we need to.

I find the freelander a nice 4x4 to drive, it looks nice especially the facelifted versions and feels alot bigger inside than it actually is.
I have just had a crap experience with it and with the hassle of dealership etc, its been in the garage every week since I bought it.
Hopefully I can start to get a nice run of things and my general opinion changes.

What you need to begin to realise is that LR dealers hate(with a passion) freelanders . They hate working on them and try to not think about them . Give yours back to the dealers and buy one along with new spanners and socket set and a Haynes manual .
EDT :C and a good jack a few blocks, concrete and wood .
STAY CLEAR OF THE PETROL ONES .

This was a independent car dealership and not a LR dealer that I bought it from but anyway its all fixed now and finance company are satisfied that it's now up to proper standard so I am stuck with it now! Lol

Its a td4 automatic that I have, would never have even considered a petrol as that was one of the main things that I seen in my small amount of research on these motors.
Still preferred my disco to the freelander though if I am honest!

The faults mentioned , injectors aside , are minor , and any second hand car can have , you can not blame the car for the **** poor service we get from some garage franchises

Best will in the world fella - you need to get on with it for a period now. If you really don't like the bleddy thing and even the true believers on here can't convert you, take it back and get your money refunded!!
 
What you've got to remember about car forums is that a lot of people post on them because they have problems with their cars so someone reading the forum can get the impression that the type of car in question is problematic.

I got my TD4 in December and had a few issues, I didn't want the independant dealer to service it because I new if I did it it would be done properly. My wife uses it as her everyday transport for work so it has to be reliable.

Once you get over the paranoia that that somethings going to go wrong you'll start to enjoy driving it.
