when i bought my lift kit the manufacturer asked what extras i had fitted so they could provide the correct rated springs

It is a substantial amount of extra weight to add, but then again I would say it depends on what other extras you have bolted on (bull bars, bonnet pods, etc) and also the current condition of your springs. If they're knackered, they'll definitely want changing and uprating. If they're in good nick, I would say keep them for a while until you need to change it.
