I want to mount a winch and towing points to my 1986 defender 90 any recommendations on what parts to use and where to get them from?

Regarding towing points, do a search here on rear crossmember replacement. Have a look at some of the replacement pohots, take note of the rear chassis repairs also. This is where all the towing pressure is, and is also the most common rusting area of older chassis. Then take a chiping hammer to your own chassis and ensure everything is sound before you start doing any serious towing or winching. Good luck, and welcome to the mad house !.

A tow ball mounted with the x member tubed and welded will be fine aslong as your chassis is in servicable condition. I use a nato as I like them (others have different opinions) a tow ball securly mounted with spreader plates and tubed x member is more than ok for most recoverys. Front sorry but will be hard to beat a couple of jate rings on cost and function

Cheers for the advice this 90 use to have a winch all the wiring is there just no winch or winch bumper I have a 20000lb winch to suit I guess that's strong enough?

I like Dixon Bates on the rear and jate rings on the front - just personal choice although i tow a mixture of 50mm ball stuff and 'ring' couplings (can't remember the proper name) with different height trailers

Jates are just for recover, albeit never used (touch wood)
