Decided to wash the underside of the 110 at Tesco - well, I didn't want crud all over my drive - after a good blast off, I got home and had a quick look underneath and found something was missing.....

So, the plan to replace the shocks will have to be brought forward PDQ...

I was intending to go for Terrafirma Big Bore +2's. I realise I would need to increase the springs as well, but would it make any difference if I didn't replace them at the same time as the shocks? I'm not planning to go mad off road for a while and have to budget for such things.

You can fit +2 shocks with standard height springs. You will need dislocation cones or the spring will end up like the 1 above

Cheers Craig - guess I can keep the dislocation cones when I get round to fitting new + 2 Springs?

Glad I'm not the only one who has these issues!

I admit I am not the most careful owner - since 2007 I have owned 6 4x4's and this one has lasted the longest. I do use them for what they were designed for though. The list reads:

1 x Di****su - Killed and sold to a Policeman
1 x Ford Explorer - Killed by Ex Girlfriend (shame, I loved that truck)
1 x Trooper V6 - Killed due to lack of oil, a bloody great bull and a barbed wire fence
1 x Hilux - Killed due to proving Top Gear wrong and both a large rock and bit of a roll
1 x Trooper 3.1 Van - Killed due to bunny shooting (don't ask!)
1 x Discovery V8 - Injured due to mobile crane, given away.

So the Defender has lasted the longest....

Are you finding novel ways of killing vehicles cos racking up the mileage is difficult for a corkhead?:D:D:D

bloody predictive text.

Did the mobile crane hit your disco while on the move or did you park it in Harold Hayles carpark (although I think that was a 2cv that was crushed) a couple of years back.

Oh and from memory the islanders that are 3rd generation through and through see it as anything but an insult and are proud of it.;):)

How did you not notice you had no damping  that would bounce and knock something awesome on the road

Have you ever seen the roads on the isle of wight? They are full of potholes and subsidence. It'd almost feel normal.:D

Haha when I took my chassis for shotblasting it had no shocks on and didn't stop bouncing the whole way on the trailer :D

Scratchydom had buggered shock turrets on his landy on the chippy run. I think someone posted a vid of him bouncing down the road.:D

i knew my dampers were shot, i was hoping they would last until the mot,
unfortunately the pay and play at essex offroad killed it, i noticed it the next day.

to be fair the shocks were so bad it wasn't much worse with a broken one:D
